Born in 1869, Stephen Leacock was a man for all reasons and all seasons. He finished his graduate studies with degrees in political science and political economy, yet in the early 1900's it is said that more people new Stephen Leacock worldwide then those who knew of Canada.

The reason was not because of Leacock's advanced education and the many books he wrote about political science but rather because he was considered at that time one of the world's greatest humorist writers. Writing with a "mixture of whimsy, parody, nonsense and satire that was never bitter", Stephen's books were published worldwide.

Versions of his famous line..."Lord Ronald flung himself upon his horse and rode madly off in all directions" are still in use today.

"Near the end of his life, comedian Jack Benny recounted how he had been introduced to Leacock's writing by Groucho Marx. Benny acknowledged Leacock's influence and fifty years after first reading him, still considered Leacock one of his favorite writers!"
