Yashica 45mm f1.4 Lens Mount Conversion

CORRECTION: The correct adapter to use is a M32.5 to M42 x0.5 step up ring to attach a new helicoid. There is a typo leaving off the .5 and unfortunately I had a drive corrupt and can't easily make the edit.

This is a hyper speed look at how I remove the Yashica 45mm f1.4 lens from the Lynx 14 camera and convert to Leica M mount. Important to note for those interested in doing this, the lock ring to remove the helicoid (referred to as the hell ring in this video) is very hard to remove and I had to create a custom tool for it after ruining the tips of a few spanner wrenches. There could be a better tool for it but I haven't found it. I simply measured the ring, bought the closest size socket head I could find and used a dremel to cut the four grooves out.

Also worth noting, using a little loctite on the helicoid threading when attaching to the lens will help secure it so it isn't able to unscrew itself during use.

The adapter ring I use is an M32.5 to M42 X0.5 step up. The helicoid is M42-M42 and the length depends on which mount you are going to. In this case, going to Leica M, it must be very short to achieve infinity focus so the lens does not get great close focus and has a very short focus throw. Other mounts I've converted to are Leica L, Sony E and Canon RF.

This modification only works with short flange lens mounts. Unfortunately, the helicoid would have to be inside the mount to make this lens work with something like EF or PL, something that can really only be achieved with rehousing or some voodoo engineering that I haven't had the courage to try yet.
