DISCOVERY 3 / LR3: Radio volume not working, silent or broken? This Land Rover hack costs nothing!

Use the hard reset process on the Land Rover Discovery 3 / LR3 to reset the radio and solve a common 'no sound' issue. It may also work to bring back to life a dead Infotainment Sat Nav Satellite Navigation screen. I suffered a radio that was turning on but the volume control was not responding, so I had no sound coming out of the speakers. Before you spend money replacing any of the head unit, amp or other parts, think about trying this hard reset procedure. It worked for me!

NOTE: PAY ATTENTION - NEVER CONNECT THE BATTERY TERMINALS TOGETHER ! HIGH RISK OF INJURY AND DAMAGE. DO NOT UNDERTAKE THIS IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT IN YOUR ACTIONS.

WATCH OUT IF YOU HAVE A SECONDARY BATTERY IN YOUR CAR, AND ALSO PROBABLY NOT WORTH TRYING THIS WITH A CAR THAT HAS STOP/START TECHNOLOGY (DISCO 4 / LR4 FROM 2014 ONWARDS FOR EXAMPLE). STOP/START SYSTEMS MAY HAVE SECONDARY BATTERY STORAGE.
