Since the seed was planted about four years ago, the women behind Neechuumeres Chuukese Women Network have been steadily watering that seed and tending to the soil. Their aim? A safe place in Guam for Chuukese women and their families to blossom. This year has been a momentous one for the organization, having secured its official 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, in addition to hosting its inaugural wellness conference and launching a successful membership drive event.
The team is small and deeply committed. Its board members only have the highest aspirations for what they hope the organization achieves, and they’re determined to ensure their goals are met.
“This is just the beginning. My hope is that through membership with NCWN, people feel included and cared for, and that they benefit from the services we offer, which are grounded in community and equity. We want our members to find growth within themselves but also to contribute positively to the growth of our organization, the growth of Guam, and the growth of our region,” said Nedine Songeni, cofounder and current NCWN president.
