Aminoglycosides primarily target gram-negative bacteria, though they can also be effective in some gram-positive ones as well.

Here are the aminoglycosides you'll want to remember, and we share a few mnemonics throughout the video as well:

-Gentamicin
-Neomycin
-Amikacin
-Tobramycin
-Streptomycin

This class of antibiotics is most often administered via IM (intramuscular) or IV (intravenous), though it may be administered orally or via inhalation in rare instances.

What is the mechanism of action for aminoglycosides? This medication primarily works to kill bacteria (it's bactericidal), and it does this by inhibiting the bacteria's protein synthesis.
