The pressed wood under the sink top has been exposed to water. Water is being absorbed into the wood, causing damage, and dry rot and wood starts mound up and crumble.  Long-term moisture can cause mold and mildew to grow, which deteriorates the inner structure of the wood, dissolving the glue that holds the wood fibers together.  I’ll scrape it away using a chisel to loosen and remove it, in addition to using a wet and vac to catch the debris as I scrape along. Using an outdoor wood glue like Gorilla glue or Elmers Glue or Titebond II Premium Wood Glue to fix the problem. It is ideal for exterior woodworking projects, including outdoor furniture, birdhouses, mailboxes, planters and picnic tables.
