Paul of Tarsus | 'Elymas is Blinded' by Simon Oxton

"...one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14.
Paul's life inspires. He loved Christ deeply. After his dramatic conversion from Christian persecutor to Christian preacher Paul embarked on three missionary journeys persuading people to put their faith in Jesus. His message met with strong opposition and as we read in 2 Corinthians 11, he was imprisoned, flogged, exposed to death, lashed, beaten with rods, stoned, and shipwrecked! He was in danger from various sources and "often" went without sleep and food. Paul lived and died for Christ. His life and letters tell us much about what the first century Christians believed and how they served the living God. I was inspired to compose this music describing the life of Paul during a time when I was listening to a lot of Progressive Rock music from the 1960s and 70s. I would sit with my friend Les, listening to his vast CD collection and learning from him about what was a very prolific era for British music. Inspired by this music, I wanted to capture the excitement and emotion of Paul's life using synthesizers and software to tell his story. This is the result.
