Thousands of people have been evacuated from the Greek island of Rhodes due to wildfires that have extended from the island's hilly part to the coast. The Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission obtained this view of the raging fire on July 23, 2023.

To emphasise the fire front, the picture was processed by mixing natural colour bands with shortwave infrared information. The graphic depicts the extent of the burned area (visible in brown colours) in the island's central region, with a preliminary estimate of 11 000 hectares destroyed at the time of collection.
