Hello everything! Here we go again with 16 unheard sydes from the unissued sixties!
Let’s dig out what we can find about these ones!
A1- The Red Dogs were a nine-piece multi-instrument band from Lawrence, Kansas, formed in 1965. They are known for their amazing “Open Up”. Here is an early version of that song, with different lyrics (“open up your box” instead of “open up your door”, maybe a more explicit reference!) and much wilder!
Audio House Reel Tape (9/12/1966)
A2- The Faded Blue was an amazing band that never released anything, but made an amazing performance, as well as players and actors, in Herschell Gordon Lewis’ “Blast Off Girls” (1967). Though it is a low budget exploitation film, it is according to me the best film on garage bands from the 1960s. It's not insulting, and very benevolent! This song has no title, but as the chorus is “Go **** Yourself My Friend” with an organ chord instead of “f***”, I named it like this.
“Blast Off Girls” movie (1967)
A3- Eric & The Norsemen were a band from University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, active from 1965 to 1968. They’re famous for their song “Get It On”, compiled on the legendary The Garage Zone #1.
Unreleased reel tape recorded at Audio House (1966)
A4- The Resurrection is a mystery band from Salt Lake City, Utah.
Recording Artists Inc. acetate or blank label promo release (date unk)
A5- The Vandals were a band formed by Bob Tuholski, Bob Winwood, Jim Hodder and Ronny Kurz. They cut two demos, this one was cut on a single sided acetate.
Ultra-Sonic Recording Studios (date unknown)
A6- The Cavaliers were a band from Kosciusko, MS, also known as The Moving Violations. They issued two singles, but this unissued track is excellent! More info here: https://garagehangover.com/cavaliers-...
Reel Tape (1966?)
A7- The 2X2 were from Kelowna, Canada. Five unreleased songs were cut in 1967. Most of them (or all?) were written by Jim Davidson. Recorded at CKOV radio station. More info here: https://garagehangover.com/2x2-kelowna/
Reel Tape (1967)
A8- The IV Bidden were a band from Rochester, NY. They cut at least two versions of their killer “Sick And Lonely” and this is the flip side of the acetate version.
Fine Recording Studio acetate (1967)
B1- I know nothing about the Sapphires, except that they were from Indiana. This song seems to come from an acetate.
acetate (date unk)
B2- Joyful Noise were a band from Boston, Massachusetts. They cut at least this song.
Acetate (1966)
B3- The Universals were a band from Port Arthur, TX, cut at the same studio as Curt Block And The Vibrations, and The Sons Of Barbee Doll. The band was previously known as The 4 Today, and included a certain S. Fernandez. I must admit that I put this track here mostly because I own the acetate! X)
L & R Recording Service (date unknown)
B4- The Tree Stumps were a band from Fairview Park/Parma, Ohio, active from 1963 to 1968. They released one single. At least two acetates with unreleased songs are known to exist, including this killer track! (b/w Tomorrow's Sun)
Cleveland Recording acetate (1967)
B5 & B6- The Blades Of Grass (no link with the one from New Jersey on Jubilee) were a band from the Rochester, NY area. They issued one single in 1970, but if these two prior songs had been released, it would have been one of the best singles I know!
Fine Recording Reel Tape (late 1960s)
B7- Milan (his real name was Milan Radenkovich) is well known for his songs as The Leather Boy. This was one of his first recordings and was intended to be issued on Parkway but it never happened. They were damn wrong!
Parkway acetate (Dec 1966)
B8- To finish with, a great unknown from Fine Recording studios. The band is unknown, but the music remains. And what results!
Fine Recording Studios reel tape (date unknown)
Fine! Now that all these ghosts (but not all of them are!) have been introduced, let the reel tape roll! I hope you enjoyed this volume and see you with the upload of Vol. 16!
