This opening leg of the journey proved far more challenging than expected, largely due to the record-breaking UK heatwave on 30 June. What began with fresh energy in Monmouth soon became a battle of endurance through shimmering valleys and punishing climbs. The Wye Valley offered stunning scenery, but the relentless sun turned each ascent into a slow grind, testing both stamina and spirit.

At one point the heat overwhelmed me to the edge of collapse with heat exhaustion setting in. Even small obstacles felt huge, and a barbed wire fence became a formidable foe as I tried to navigate it with shaky legs and a fogged head. But persistence and stubbornness carried me through, step by step, mile by mile.
