Classic American Coins That Escaped the Gold Recall of 1933
To help an economy that was still foundering following the Great Depression, President Franklin Roosevelt signed an executive order known as the Gold Recall of 1933, requiring all Americans to trade in their gold, gold bullion, and gold certificates. Millions of gold coins were melted, and as a result, nobody knows how many of these $5 Gold Liberty and $10 Gold Liberty coins still exist today!
Extremely Limited Populations!
Based on PCGS’ population report, as of 2/28/2024, of the total 60,571,363 mintage of all 1839-1908 $5 Coronet Liberty coins, only 11,269, or just 5%, of those submitted to PCGS, earned a Mint State 62 grade or higher with the + designation!
Similarly, of the 42,684,266 mintage of all 1838-1907 Coronet $10 Gold Liberty coins, only 7,531, or just 4.5%, of those submitted to PCGS, earned a Mint State 62 grade or higher with a + designation!
