71-year-old Jean-Jacques Savin started the new year in style, he has set off to sail across the Atlantic in a barrel… yes, a barrel… ok so this isn’t just your stereotypical barrel, but it isn’t exactly boat-shaped. It measures three meters long and is 2 meters across so, in fact, it’s a pretty nice size, but not the most hydrodynamic shape around.

yup, it’s made from resin coated plywood and it has been heavily reinforced to resist waves and attacks from orcas. The “barrel” also features a kitchen, sleeping bunk and has lots of room for storage, it even features a porthole in the floor so he can look at the passing fish below.
