District Attorney Investigator Breaks Law on Body Cam

Описание к видео District Attorney Investigator Breaks Law on Body Cam

From Family Court to Felony: Many are unaware of how frequently family court cases escalate to criminal charges. Parents are often arrested and prosecuted due to conflicts that are allowed to fester, with divorce and child custody cases dragging on for years. This prolonged process is enabled by attorneys and judges, with prosecutors and police also playing key roles when it comes to domestic violence, child abduction, and other charges that can sever family bonds and end careers. All of this can be lucrative for police departments, court budgets and private divorce attorneys.

This video was filmed in Yolo County, home to the City of Davis and the University of California, where police once notoriously used mace on students who were peacefully protesting. Jeff Reisig, the county’s elected district attorney, oversees an office where this video captures one of his top investigators handling a public records request, on body cam pointed at me.

Supporting local investigative journalism has never been more crucial. Beyond the "who, what, where, when, and how," we need journalists probing the "why" to shed light on what goes unreported in the nightly news—especially on issues involving police, local government, family courts, prosecutors, and divorce attorneys.
