Dozens of rallygoers gathered in south Toledo on Saturday afternoon to support migrant rights and call for comprehensive immigration reform.

The rally, organized by the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC), came in response to former President Donald Trump’s continued push for stricter deportation policies.

The demonstration drew a large crowd of supporters demanding changes to immigration laws and trade policies as well as.

A crowd waving FLOC flags and carrying signs supporting immigrants and protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions and policies of mass deportation listened to speeches by Democratic Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur as well as FLOC President Baldemar Velasquez. Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken and Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz were also at the event.

Organizers stressed the need to address the root economic causes of migration, including trade agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which they say have displaced workers in countries like Mexico and contributed to undocumented immigration.
