Pigs On The Wing (Parts 1 & 2) - Pink Floyd (1977)

"Pigs on the Wing" was released on Pink Floyd's 10th studio album, Animals, in late January 1977. This video features the 8-track version of the track with Snowy White's guitar solo tying the two tracks together that were originally released as "Pigs on the Wing (Part 1)" and "Pigs on the Wing (Part 2). "Pigs on the Wing" is a two-part song by the progressive rock band Pink Floyd from their 1977 concept album, Animals, starting and wrapping up the album.

Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album, It's a extremely dark album, but it captures the band at the height of their considerable musical prowess.

From Wikipedia: The song is divided into two parts, which are the first and last tracks of the album. Both are in stark contrast to the album's middle three misanthropic songs, and suggest that companionship can help us overcome our flaws. The casual listener may ignore them for the most part; however they are keys to the album, summing up the album in its entirety in their short 1:25 time spans. Roger Waters apparently refers to himself as a "dog" in Part 2: "Now that I've found somewhere safe to bury my bone/And any fool knows, a dog needs a home/A shelter, from pigs on the wing." Another allusion is found in the line "So I don't feel alone, or the weight of the stone," which refers back to the dogs being "dragged down by the stone".

According to Nick Mason, and confirmed by Waters, it is a love song directed towards Waters' new wife at the time, Carolyn. She was really the only one Roger's friends had ever met who could hold her own in an argument with him; according to Mason you had to be very good with semantics to win an argument against him. Waters wrote the song because that's all he had been looking for all along: someone who could stand up to him, an equal.

The songs are constructed simply and feature no instrumentation besides a strummed acoustic guitar played by Waters.

On the 8-track cartridge release, the song order was changed, and Parts 1 and 2 were played back-to-back at the beginning of the album. They were linked by a guitar bridge performed by Snowy White. Snowy would play the guitar solo in live performances on the 1977 Animals tour. On the last US leg of the performances, David Gilmour would play bass guitar instead of the electric rhythm guitar he played on the European and first US legs of the Animals tour.

About the audio: Lossless from Snowy White compilation release from 1995 (Goldtop: Groups & Sessions '74–'94). Sent the track to Sparky and hoped his fine tuning would help a some....I think it helped tremendously, now there is a bit more warmth, depth.....awesome work and thanks Sparky!

This is the third swing I've taken for this track, I uploded the original video in 2011 and then updated it in 2014 . Crazy when I think about it, but here I am again 10 years later, and now equipped with AI to help!) This one came about on spur of the moment decision as I was actually working on a video for another track from the album (one of the biggies of course...which have all three have always been high on the list of vids I'd like to do, but never committed the time because the best style I could produce at the time (see my "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" video for example) was such a tedious process, and to do another epic that way...yeah, might be awhile. .

So armed with this new tool I knew that I would possibly soon be able to make a video for one of the three epic tracks. Then I actually started laying down a few things for an Animals Master I'd use to template all three tracks to be able to share some elements between them and to just to see what might happen, and I'm surprised I've gotten along as far with it as I have so quickly.

Since things were moving pretty quickly, I thought I could maybe pull-off an AI update for the baby of the bunch by this weekend....and here it is....early! LOL! I hope you enjoy the effort....with AI it's often startling of how close you can get to creating the images as you imagine! For sure if you enjoyed this one....standby for the next one!
