Trip down the Grand Canal, Venice on the no1 Vaporino. Rialto-S.Marco 08/08/2024

My favourite bus ride. The no1 ACTV waterbus (often called Vaporetto or Vaporino, which means "little steamer") zig-zigs its way down the Grand Canal, stopping everywhere except San Samuele. Service no2 is a quicker service and stops at San Samuele, but isn't as much fun. How everything co-exists on the Grand Canal is a mystery to me- it is fantastically chaotic!.
I was travelling from Rialto to S. Marco- was on the way to Harry's Bar for a couple of Bellinis!!

Top tips! The vaponios have an open are at the back, with is really good for videoing from. As people tend to bunch by the entrance / exit area, you will often find seats in the saloon and space at the back.
There are several Traghetto ferries that cross the grand canal. An example is San Tomà - Santo Stefano. These are large public gondolas. This is a good way to get a short ride on a gondola, particularly if you have kids and are worried about keeping them under control for a longer ride! It only costs two euros per person for a one way trip.
