Yesterday’s #BigFilmPhotoWalk in St Albans, Hertfordshire was a fantastic celebration of analogue photography, community, and creativity — and we wrapped it up with a unique group portrait captured on large format!

As part of the day’s events, we made a group portrait of attendees using a Wista 45DX large format field camera paired with a Schneider 90mm f/6.3 lens, exposing directly onto a sheet of Harman Direct Positive Paper. This special paper creates a one-of-a-kind black and white print — no negatives, no digital steps, and just one chance to get it right.

After the shot was taken, we brought the exposed paper to the pub where we processed it at our table in the beer garden, using Ilford chemistry — no darkroom required. It was a brilliant way to share the immediacy and magic of the darkroom process with fellow film photographers and curious onlookers alike.
