Thanks to Raju Asokan sir for sharing. The shruthi varies at many places, but I have kept the concert as it is.
Let's enjoy a mellifluous MLV concert from the 80s. Her voice is matured, but still vibrant. Except for tracks 6, 8 and 10, the majority of these tracks are familiar to our ears. Still the classiness is intact. It is as if I'm in attendance. When she sings the Marathi Abhang, I can feel a change in her voice and diction. And the rendition is smooth and endearing.
And what an RTP! While I wish it was longer with rare rAgams, the layam discipline and intelligence Dr. MLV displays is impeccable. One needs to pay close attention to how the tALam is being incorporated as it's not easy as you think it is.
While I wish the vocal support got to sing swarams throughout the concert, she doesn't disappoint during the concert. A Kanyakumari as usual is at her best and the percussive team of Bhakthavatsalam and EM Subramaniam do a bravura job. I love that EM Subramaniam got to play for MLV during some portions of the swaraprastara while Kanyakumari and Bhakthavatsalam played together. And I like the thani was a team effort where both percussion vidwans play less than 2 minutes for their turns, play plenty of shorter rounds and combine together for a electrifying finish.
Those who attended it, please do share your reminiscences as well as the year, venue and other information. Those who are listening for the first time, please share your thoughts.
Long live this concert!
