Deadly storm batters Gaza, floods tents and kills six displaced residents:

A powerful rainstorm tore through the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, flooding hundreds of tents, collapsing makeshift homes, and killing at least six people sheltering after two years of war.

Medics said five people—including two women and a young girl—were killed when structures collapsed near Gaza City’s beachfront. In central Gaza, a one-year-old boy died from hypothermia after his family’s tent was flooded in Deir al-Balah.

Strong winds ripped tents from their anchors, sending some flying dozens of metres, while others collapsed into pools of mud as families rushed to save their belongings.

Among the dead were three members of the same family—72-year-old Mohamed Hamouda, his 15-year-old granddaughter, and his daughter-in-law—who were killed when an eight-metre wall fell onto their tent along Gaza City’s Mediterranean coast.

Relatives returned to the site Tuesday morning to clear debris and rebuild shelters for survivors. Elsewhere, residents worked to secure remaining tents with sandbags and stakes, while mourners gathered at hospital morgues for prayers ahead of funerals.
