The BEST 3-Day Komodo Island Itinerary | Komodo Dragons, Padar Island, Pink Beach, & Flying Foxes 🇮🇩

Grab a snack because this is a long one... and one of our most incredible trips yet!

After spending an entire month on Bali, we met Gerald (our Muay Thai instructor) who highly recommended we make Komodo Island our next stop. He told us a bit about Labuan Bajo we quickly knew we had to experience it for ourselves! We did sooo much on this trip, so be sure to check the timestamps for all our activities! If you have any questions about our adventure, ask us below and we’ll do our best to answer :)

Day 1 - Arrive in Labuan Bajo
We took a 1-hour flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo and stayed in the Phinizy Suite at the Meruorah Hotel, using credit card points for our 3-night stay. We checked into our room, enjoyed an epic sunset, had dinner at the on-site restaurant (kinda sub-par), and explored the nearby fish and fruit market which was totally worth a visit!

Day 2 - Private Speedboat Tour
We chartered a private speedboat with Alexandria Cruise via SeekSophie. We booked the deluxe boat for 11 hours, with 4 crew members who doubled as our tour guides. Renting a massive 8-person boat for just the 2 of us felt pretty ridiculous, but we were grateful we opted for the private tour when we saw another group waiting at the marina before 6am for latecomers. We weren’t rushed at all and had a few beaches and part of the trail on our hike up Padar Island to ourselves! All snorkeling gear, lunch (even vegan for Sarah), snacks, beverages, and lifejackets were included too.

The day was jam-packed. We hiked to the top of Padar Island to see the most iconic view of the 3 beaches: a black sand, pink sand, and white sand beach! We did a Komodo Dragon trek and were lucky to spot a few - this is one of the only spots in the world where they live. Talking about rare things, we visited one of the world’s few pink beaches, which gets its light pink hue due to red coral in the sand - a must see! We walked on an insanely perfect sand bar, Taka Makassar. We went snorkeling at Manta Point (aka Makassar Reef); we didn’t see any manta rays as it wasn’t the right season, but we saw many beautiful fish and coral and got SO fricken sunburnt hahaha.

Day 3 - Exploring by Scooter and Traditional Phinisi Boat
We rented a scooter from our hotel and toured around the island until we literally ran out of battery haha. After a sweaty walk back to the hotel, we grabbed some food at the Copper Bonnet before renting a Phinisi (traditional boat). We stopped at an island and did a short but very steep hike up a hill (not recommended, especially in sandals, lawl). We watched the sunset and headed to the mangroves on Kalong Island where we saw thousands of flying foxes. Flying foxes are like large bats with a wingspan up to 1.5 meters. The boat was slow, very loud, and it was a dark and chilly 1-hour ride back to our hotel.

We agreed that if we had to go home after this, our hearts would be content. If you have the opportunity, we 100% encourage you to visit Komodo Island, it is the most breathtaking place we have ever been to!
