Goldstone is still EXTREMELY early in development, but the spoilers released daily show that this game is shaping up to be fun. It’s a 2D pixel-art side scroller, like Terraria. The developer stated that he’ll also be taking some inspiration from DigDug and Minecraft. Goldstone is planned to play more like the retro flash games that many of us grew up on.

The full game is estimated to have an 8-hour story, but endless replayability. The story is the most alluring aspect of the game currently; at least to me. When I asked the developer of Goldstone, The Pixel Dev, for some spoilers/insights on the plot of the game, here’s what he had to say:

“I’m still working on the story so some things could change, but essentially, there is a magical stone called the Goldstone. Retrieving it back after it was stolen is how you beat the game. The deeper you go the more strange things will happen.”

It’s been decades since I enjoyed Motherload and I still remember tons of the little details. I hope this game leaves the same impression on me.
