Thanks for all the positive comments. To all who have been following this project, it's coming along, and thanks for your patience. Design and prototyping has taken much, much longer than anticipated. Unfortunately, the hardware kit/DIY method has been put on hold. An offering of retractible stairs is in the final prototype, but it's not a DIY. Anyone who can install a typical attic ladder, will be able to install it. Details - it will be available as non-electric. It will be manually operated like in the video and be able to lowered and raised in lest than 3 seconds. The treads and stringers will be CNC'd and will be made of 5/4 (1 inch) souther yellow pine. The design is fire rated/thermally insulated. The price range is still yet to be determined. The current similar offerings are in the 3500 to 10k range, and I hope to be at the very low end of that range. Again, thanks for your patience

Retracting Garage Stairs: Gas Spring assisted retracting staircase for garage attic access. Non-motorised and quick easy with little effort to pull down and push up. After an initial push,it retracts up under it's own power. The stairway is fully retractable into the ceiling joists. The Hoist is an inexpensive device from the big-box retailer. The PVC guard rail is there just to be aware of the hole in the floor and prevent falls. This is a simple DIY project.
