Stupid Party Tricks: How to Freeze a Beer | Outside

Outside contributor Micah Cratty shows us how to impress party guests by instantly freezing a beer.

Science and beer collide in this party trick featuring a before-your-eyes transformation from liquid to solid. To pull it off, start out with a couple of bottles of beer (clear bottles, like Corona, work best) and a fully-functioning freezer. Before freezing, make sure your beer is handled with care – try not to agitate the carbonation inside the bottle. Carefully place your beer in the freezer for about two hours. It’ll be ready to go once you notice it’s really cold but still in liquid form (you can test this by gently tipping the bottle to one side). Then, the magic happens: Micah pops the top and demonstrates the shockingly simple trick to an instant freeze that will astound your guests.
