The topic of this program is why jury duty matters and the title of the book authored by my guest. Why Jury Duty Matters, a Citizen's Guide to Constitutional Act is the scholarly work of Andrew Guthrie Ferguson, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of the District of Columbia's David A. Clarke School of Law. Professor Ferguson teaches and writes in the area of criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence. Prior to joining the law faculty, Professor Ferguson worked as a supervising attorney at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia were he represented adults and juveniles in serious felony cases ranging from homicide to misdemeanor offenses.

Professor Ferguson is also co-author of Youth Justice in America a textbook for high school students on their rights under the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments to the United States Constitution. He founded the National Youth Justice Alliance, a non-profit organization that teaches at-risk youth at a local detention center. He is on the Board of Directors of the Free Minds Book Club, a non-profit organization that teaches creative writing and poetry to juvenile defendants charged as adults in the District of Columbia and he is Co-Chair of the ABA Criminal Justice Section's Student Activities Committee which runs the "Citizen Amicus Project" - a national project to involve law students in current Supreme Court cases.
