As the third President of The City College of New York(CCNY), John H. Finley strove to instill in the minds of students and alumni the concept of dedicated service to the community as the first principle of good citizenship. To this end, he introduced the use of the ancient Athenian Ephebic Oath as part of each commencement ceremony. In perpetuation of this ideal, the Alumni Association of CCNY presents the 75th annual John H. Finley Award to Anthony D. Romero, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Established in 1948 by the Class of 1918, the Alumni Association of CCNY presents the John H. Finley Award at the Annual Alumni Gala to a New Yorker who has proven exemplary and dedicated service to the city of New York.

ABOUT THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF CCNY
The purpose of the Alumni Association of CCNY is to promote the general welfare of The City
College of The City University of New York and its alumni, to establish beneficial relationships
between The City College and its alumni, to advance the principles of public higher education
