"Cascading Reflection", composed by Sandi Rennick for large percussion ensemble. **World Premiere

The Texas A&M University-Commerce Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Brian Zator, performed their 2023 PASIC Showcase Concert, as one of three winners of the prestigious PAS International Percussion Ensemble Competition.

Cascading Reflection (2023) is an energetic and fast-paced work scored for a large ensemble. Commissioned for the Texas A&M University-Commerce Percussion Ensemble 2023 PASIC Showcase Concert, Cascading Reflection was designed as a musical interpretation of a ripple-effect, with each melodic and rhythmic motif cascading into the next.
The title refers to the process of reflecting on one’s thoughts, actions or decisions in a continuous and intercon- nected manner, often leading to deeper self-awareness and understanding.
The specific moment of “reflection” that inspired this piece is a conversation between Christopher Deane, Brian Zator, and myself in June of 2016 about a melodic idea in Chris’s piece “Etude for a Quiet Hall.” Looking back, that conversation initiated a ripple-effect in my own life, eventually leading to my involvement in the TAMUC percussion program. Cascading Reflection serves as a musical “thank you” to Chris, as well as a celebration of the TAMUC students and faculty.”
