"If someone says such a thing and has the guts, then try throwing me out of Maharashtra. I don’t speak Marathi — show me if you can throw me out. I openly challenge any leader: if you have the courage, I don’t speak Marathi — throw me out of Maharashtra."

This is what Bhojpuri film superstar Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirahua' has said. Minister of Ports Development of Maharashtra Nitesh Rane also made remark over the controversy. He stated,

"A poor Hindu was killed just because he didn’t speak Marathi. If you have the courage, go to Muslim-dominated areas like Null Bazaar or Mohammed Ali Road in Mumbai and tell them to speak in Marathi. Do they have the guts to go there and attack those who wear skull caps? Do Javed Akhtar or Aamir Khan speak in Marathi?"

In recent months, there have been multiple incidents where innocent North Indians living in cities of Maharashtra were assaulted for not speaking Marathi. Now even Raj Thackeray, the head of the party, has said: "Slap them under the ear, but don’t record the video."
