STORYLINE
The White House in Washington DC got a new resident on Thursday with the arrival of Miss Beazley, the First Lady's Scottish terrier puppy.
President George W. Bush and the First Lady showed the puppy off to TV cameras on the White House's South Lawn.
Bush gave the dog to his wife for her 58th birthday in November, but the 10-week-old puppy had to wait until it was old enough to move into the White House.
Miss Beazley is related to the other White Hose dog, Barney: Barney's half brother is Miss Beazley's father.
Barney gave his younger companion a few good sniffs at the official presentation, but they mostly roamed the grass and ignored each other - and first lady's calls for them to come.
The president jokingly said of the new dog that he "behaves like Barney", who often ignores commands from the president to come and has to be chased down and carried.
The Bush's other long-time pet, an English springer spaniel named Spot, died last year.
