This webinar introduces the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) official statistics survey, Food and You 2 (F&Y2)—a rich resource for researchers conducting secondary analysis on food-related behaviours, attitudes, and knowledge across the UK.

F&Y2 captures self-reported data on a wide range of topics. Originally conducted twice a year with a sample of approximately 6,000 adults across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, the survey has since expanded to include Scotland. From March 2026, F&Y2 will transition to annual reporting with Scotland included, thereby enabling a more consistent approach and greater opportunity for cross-country comparisons across the four nations.

Using a robust mixed-mode, push-to-web methodology and random probability sampling, the survey invites up to two adults per household to participate, ensuring high-quality, representative data. The findings play a central role in tracking the FSA’s strategic objectives, supporting evidence led policy development and identifying areas for further research.

This session provides an overview of the survey, followed by a spotlight on Scotland’s involvement. It will also showcase how F&Y2 data is being used in research beyond primary reporting, including examples of secondary analysis in academic publications and contributions to external reports. The presentation ends with a forward-looking discussion on the potential for data linkage, highlighting opportunities to strengthen subgroups and a Q&A session where attendees were invited to explore the dataset’s variables and discuss potential uses for their own research areas.
