Valuable Vessels I: An Oribe Dish from Japan

Описание к видео Valuable Vessels I: An Oribe Dish from Japan

In this talk, Morgan Pitelka (Professor of History and Asian Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill) discusses a Japanese Oribe dish from the John D. Rockefeller 3rd Collection at Asia Society. Pitelka encourages us to look closely at unique characteristics of the innovative Oribe style and situates the dish against a larger history of ceramics and the tea ceremony in Japan.

The Oribe dish is featured in the exhibition “Buddha and Shiva, Lotus and Dragon: Masterworks from the Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3rd Collection at Asia Society” on view at the Ackland Art Museum October 8, 2021 - January 9, 2022.
