Get a team and try to stay together so you build chemistry 

Learn how to communicate good with your team and learn map callouts 

Learn all the maps that you will play in the competitive ladder and by learning i mean knowing where to throw a prenade or where not to go so you don't get prenaded, know the commonly used spots that people use, know when to expect the enemy when doing a rush route, and finally know all the lines of sight in the map

Defending the correct way in snd is all about taking control of the bomb sites and figuring out where the enemy team is going. Then you can try and pinch them with your teammates. Common mistakes i see people doing is rushing to much and dying. Now rushing is not bad but you usually don't need to do it because you just have to control the bomb sites. Another mistake i usually see people do is once the enemy team controls a bomb site they don't work together to try and break their control. Another big issue is players not rotating to the side enemies are attacking so always try to tell your teammates where the enemy team is going and have them rotate so they can help you defend.

Attacking the correct way in snd is all about overloading and attacking as a team. So try to come up with some offensive strategies so everyone knows what they have to do at the beginning of the round. You usually want one guy watching the flank at all times. And the other people should be working together to gain control of a bomb site. Now once you gain control of a bomb site their is a couple things you can do. First is planting the bomb and try to defend it. Second is waiting a little bit and try to kill enemies rotating from the other bomb site this is also useful to bait grenades if its a bomb site that you can grenade. And the third is to make your team rotate to the other bomb site since the enemy team will try to regain control of the bomb site you are in. I usually only like to use this one when my team has more players alive then the enemy team. Most of the time i feel you should stick with the first or second option since i feel they are the most effective.

Some other tips to help you out are 

Play for trades

Be smart and don't get in unnecessary gunfights

Always try to switch up your plays so you are unpredictable
 
Use extreme conditioning in the first 15 secs of the match to get an advantage then switch to the class you want to use
 
Switch up your pre grenade throws sometimes do them fast and other times delay them to keep enemies guessing
 
Always try to check all your corners
 
Camp unpredictable corners to surprise enemies
 
Soundwhore your enemy 

Crouch when you know their is enemies near you so they can't hear your footsteps
 
Always communicate everything to your teammates
