4K Winter Snorkeling Austin Texas | BARTON SPRINGS

Barton Springs Pool is one of my favorite places in Austin, Texas. If you're visiting the area, Barton Springs pool is a must do. The Spring fed water stays about 70 degrees Fahrenheit all year around and is so crisp and clean. Even during the winter, when this video was filmed, it's still doable and actually warmer in the water. You'll see locals still doing laps during the winter and really, it's my favorite time to go snorkeling here. The water is undisturbed during this time, and no one is jumping off the diving board. If you go snorkeling, check out the area near the diving board. That's where the actual spring is located and where all the fish hang out.

During the summer ,It does get a bit busy but it's still worth it. It's only a few bucks to get in and such a great way to beat the heat. Since the water comes from the Edwards Aquifer, it stays pretty cool and refreshing. Don't forget your snorkel gear, it's pretty fun to see the springs with some goggles.

Before the Spanish and French ever arrived, the springs were considered sacred and were used for purification rituals by the Tonkawa Native American tribe, who inhabited the area. If you do come and bask in the sun, try and imagine what is would have looked like when the Native Americans were having their ceremonials around the spring. Wow!

The Springs serves as home to the endangered Barton Springs Salamander, and is listed as a federally protected habitat. You can also expect to see fish and turtles in the pool, but don't worry, they don't mess with you.
