Iraq's health minister claimed on Monday (9/9) many people would die needlessly if Iraq's oil-for-food agreement with the United Nations is not implemented.
Dr Omid Midhat said the situation in Iraq had improved following the recent fighting there, because the oil pipeline allowing Iraq to export oil through Turkey is now under the control of a pro-Iraqi Kurdish group, which allows oil to flow unimpeded.
The minister went on to say the situation in hospitals in Iraq is serious due to the interantional economic sanctions still in effect against Saddam Hussein.
