It's hard to tell how the initial tussle over the Rainmaker will go. It's pretty much a lottery, dependent on how quick your team gets to it, how quick the other team gets to it, and how much ink you each dedicate to the task. In this case, the orange team beat us in every respect, my Splat Bomb finds no one, and I can't get away from the inksplosion once it's clear it's going to be orange. So it goes.

With all of us splatted, the orange team have a clear advantage on their first push, and we limit ourselves to damage control. Despite running out of ink, I somehow survive against the other Tri-slosher, an Ink Storm being thrown mostly to refill my tank. But the orange threat as a whole remains. We can't ink turf, reclaim the Rainmaker, and splat the orange team, so we end up doing not much of any of them. The orange team push a bit further forwards.

I'm remain in damage-limitation mode, keeping a foundation of ink near our base and moving forwards slowly, helped by a squidmate grabbing the Rainmaker and jumping in to some water. It buys us a little time and space. With this patience we manage to stem the orange tide and start claiming turf of our own. Our first proper push forwards with the Rainmaker results not only stealing the lead, but almost getting the dunk. Nice! I don't even mind getting stuck on a Curling Bomb.

The Academy is looking nice and purple now, with just a bit of orange rain messing up our turf. I tidy up that mess before supporting another squidmate with the Rainmaker, until I really run out of ink. I somehow get away to refill my tank, but I return to the battle in the middle of orange inklings with Ink Armour, and don't last long.

I return down the flank, and spot the Sploosh-o-matic hiding. I surprise them from behind, and try to support the Rainmaker. They get splatted quickly, though, and things get a bit messy as the battle for turf happens all around the nearby block, taking in all three dimensions. When a few splats occur and things seem to be calming down, I move around the side to approach the Rainmaker, but it's being moved quicker than I anticipate. I try to help out with some supporting splats as my squidmates stop the Rainmaker, and from there we move it forwards again.

I try to remove the source of repeated Splat Bombs, and hold my turf as the orange turf looks a bit hot for a single inkling, and deal with a source of Curling Bombs instead. I do what I can to make the turf more awkward for the orange team, which has the added effect of making the Rainmaker easier to track. A bit of height lets me slosh them safely from above, but pushing forwards to continue just runs me in to the Tri-slosher, almost literally.

The orange team have one last chance to move the Rainmaker and snatch the lead. With a bit of a cavalier manner, I slosh directly at the approaching Rainmaker, and despite its heavy support, get enough ink over them to win us the battle, just as the orange ink overwhelms me. Woomy!
