The Centre for Digital Transformation hosted a webinar on Technology for Healthcare in India: The Way Forward by Prof Ritu Agarwal and Mr Girish Krishnamurthy.
The Webinar was moderated by IIMA Prof Pankaj Setia.

About the Speakers:
Prof. Ritu Agarwal:
She is a distinguished university professor at the Robert H. Smith school of Information Systems and founding director of the school’s Center for Health Information and Decision Systems (CHIDS) at the University of Maryland, and Professor, by courtesy at the John Hopkins University. She has published more than 100 papers in top academic journals, testified before government agencies such as the U.S. Department of Health, and collaborated with Fortune 500 companies such as Cisco Systems, Johnson and Johnson and Pfizer. Since arriving at Maryland Smith in 1999, she has taught at every level and received all of the school’s major teaching awards. Prior to her appointment as interim dean, she served as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty & Research. Her current research focuses on the use of information technology in healthcare settings, health analytics, and artificial intelligence applications in health. In addition to publishing her research in journals such as Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Management Science, Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association and Health Affairs, She has made presentations at a variety of national and international conferences. She has been the National Science Foundation ADVANCE Professor for Maryland Smith and won the university's Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Award. In 2017 she was appointed as a Distinguished University Professor, Maryland’s highest academic honor. She recently completed a six-year term as editor-in-chief of Information Systems Research, one of the world’s top academic journals in information systems. Previously she served as senior editor at MIS Quarterly and associate editor for Management Science. She has been a leader in all of the major professional associations, a fellow of the Association for Information Systems, and a Distinguished Fellow of the Information Systems Society of INFORMS. In 2010, Prof. Agarwal started the annual Conference on Health IT and Analytics (CHITA). This conference is a leading research forum at the intersection of technology, analytics and health. CHITA attracts international scholars, policymakers and business executives who work in healthcare reform. Prof. Agarwal is deeply passionate about using her research capabilities and advocacy to improve the practice and delivery of healthcare.

Mr Girish Krishnamurthy:
He is best known for being a transformational leader and he is the CEO and Managing Director of Tata Medical and Diagnostics Ltd. (Tata MD). He is the director at Tata Indian Institute of Skills and Tata 1 MG. Girish has over 3 decades of vast and rich blend of entrepreneurial and enterprise leadership experience in technology, Healthcare, Education, and Skills. Before moving to India in 2004, he worked across geographies, as a technologist and entrepreneur, successfully launching several products and businesses.
Among other healthcare disruptions, Girish is the chief architect of a patented, innovative healthcare transformative model - the Digital Nerve Centre. He envisioned and delivered high impact healthcare services from primary to tertiary care including specialties like Oncology through this model. He has used this replicable and scalable model to drive change to improve lives of the common man and to transform India.
This innovative model is managing healthcare services for over 1.6 million citizens in rural Karnataka.Transformation lead by Girish at the All-India Institute Medical Science (AIIMS) - the world’s largest OPD, was lauded by the Honorable Prime Minister of India, as the most successful ‘Digital India Initiative’ of 2016.
Girish holds a MBA from the University of Texas, Dallas and a graduate in Electrical Engineering and in Mathematics from the University of Madras.Over the years, Girish has been recognized for his out-of-the-box thinking and has been felicitated with several awards. He has also authored papers on technology and business strategies. A passionate speaker at various industry forums, Girish also mentors several start-up businesses.
