Brian Kelly has finally broken his silence.
In his first public comments since being fired as LSU’s head coach, Kelly joined SiriusXM’s Dusty and Danny in the Morning and addressed everything surrounding his controversial exit from Baton Rouge. Kelly discussed what he believes went wrong during his tenure at LSU, admitting that one major mistake was giving too much autonomy to his young coordinators.
Kelly also pushed back against criticism from people close to the program who accused him of spending too much time golfing and drinking instead of focusing on the job, allegations that reportedly played a role in LSU attempting to fire him for cause.
There were also major revelations about the current state of the program. Kelly claimed that Lane Kiffin’s 2026 LSU roster is valued at more than $40 million, highlighting the massive financial arms race in college football.
Perhaps most interestingly, Kelly discussed his future in coaching. With a $54 million buyout from LSU, any future job would reduce what he’s owed through mitigation — but Kelly didn’t sound fully committed to returning to the sidelines.
So what really happened behind the scenes at LSU? What does Kelly regret? And will he coach again?
We break down the biggest takeaways from Kelly’s first interview since leaving LSU.
