I have a 2009 Toyota Corolla and recently the engine is running noisy. (high mileage - around 185k - used Mobil 1 0w-20, oil changed every 5k, denso oil filter).
I decided to check the VVT oil control valve ( The one in front is the for Intake 15330-0T010,15330-37010, the one at the back is for exhaust 15330-0T020, 15330-37020) to make sure it is still functioning even though the Check Engine Light did not turn on. I hope the valves are weak or partially working which may be contribute to my noisy engine. The car is running fine except it is quite noisy especially cold in the morning and running like a Diesel engine.
I think I may need a new set of lifter or valves need to be adjusted or new shim or camshaft or new set of rocker arm. Anyway, good try for me but no luck. I have removed, checked and tested both solenoid and solenoid is working fine (Specification is between 8 to 12 ohms); therefore, it is not the cause of my noisy engine. If you have the above C.E.L.'s code related to oil control valve, it may be a easy fix because it is easy access on top of engine and the replacement part is not expensive at all.

Thank you for watching.
NOTES: By the way, anyone know what is that tapping, ticking noise? Is it lifter valve or camshaft or what is causing it? High mileage engine? Please comments. Thanks so much.
