'Even when Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) offers boundless opportunities in agriculture, horticulture, food, clothing, tourism, handicrafts, and other untapped resources, fostering entrepreneurship in J&K has been a challenge for decades.

Most avenues have not been leveraged to their full potential due to socioeconomic factors and violence/disturbance in the region. This has resulted in J&K's struggle to gain economic strength in the face of prevailing unemployment and slow economic growth.

J&K needs a sustainable solution to strengthen its economic base, which can only come from growth at grass roots level. Young entrepreneurs in J&K are dealing with a lack of support and unfavourable circumstances. The youth in J&K, amidst all the challenges, have been displaying entrepreneurial zeal and taking strides towards progress. Fostering innovative mindsets and increasing interest in entrepreneurship are often catalyses focus on development objectives including growth, employment and equity.

For entrepreneurs to successfully contribute towards the society, however, they need vital resources such as leadership qualities, funding, mentoring, human capital with a growth mindset, suitable infrastructure and supportive government policies.

Bridge Institute designed the '1,000 Leaders Programme' with the aim of 'Unlocking Capital for Impact' through fostering entrepreneurship in J&K. This capital would be provided for creating impactful social entrepreneurship and leadership development in the region.

We aim to build the 1,000 Leaders Programme by creating an ecosystem of social innovators which thrive on a public sphere of solutions. We make an informed choice in identifying the right mix of people whose transformative shifts could be momentous. We look for people who are or will play a big role in societal transformation, those who have the potential to be influencers and can become powerful forces to better the economy and well-being of the region.
