These Agates are Outstanding! Cutting & Polishing Elusive Iris Agates ft. Ozone Fine Art-Ventures!

In this one, we break down the process for the ever elusive but always incredible Iris agate! Iris is an effect that can be observed when certain transparent agates are cut very thin (2-5mm) and brought to a high polish allowing maximum light to pass through the stone and causes a vibrant rainbow inducing defraction of light! We are very fortunate in Montana to have easy access to Montana moss agates, which are well known and consistent producers of iris. Iris can be very frustrating to hunt down because it is very random in its occurrence; not every transparent agate can become iris so it can be tricky to find out which ones will yield color. BUT! There are some good signs to look for when identifying raw Iris agates so it is not all just blindly cutting! In this video, we talk a bit about what causes iris, how to spot iris, and which agates are the best ones to focus on when chasing rainbows! They may seem incredibly elusive, but the effort is well worth it when you see that vivid color!
