On the 21st of Elul in 1940, Chabad acquired a building as a home for the previous Rebbe and the newly established Chabad Yeshiva in America. The address was 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New York.

Over the following years and decades, it became the central hub for Chabad activities all around the world, and today, Jews everywhere simply know it by its street number - 770.
