FINALLY! Sorry for the wait...but this was a challenge!!

As requested (and then promised by me) this is a studio recreation of the live B-Stage version of Closer as performed by Nine Inch Nails + Boys Noize during the Peel It Back Tour.

I have used the original stems where available but all new elements have been carefully rebuilt to reflect the live version whilst still working as a standalone studio track.

Just to fill you in on some things, this was a mammoth session of almost 110 tracks of audio and MIDI in Logic!! I have tried my best to recreate sounds fairly closely but I am much more focussed on getting the vibe and atmosphere right as opposed to nailing 100% accuracy. I found that the YouTube recordings of Closer from the Peel It Back tour sound so exciting because you're hearing the track in a big space - and those reverbs can make everything sound huge. Naturally, I have tried my best to get it sounding big but still dynamic and punchy on a car stereo and headphones etc

The breakdown section, as far as I know, is a Peel It Back arrangement of the Outro. I did not want to re sing Trent's part or use the distorted spoken vocal on the original - so I made a potentially unpopular decision to include the live version of this section in this studio version. I like it as it feels like a chance to remember where we were when we first heard this and it gives it a hybrid live/studio feel, It genuinely was the best solution to fix this problem in an authentic musical way.

The only thing I have added vocally are the parts that say "You get me" in the outro which feed the vocoder. I couldn't get a clean version of this from the live recording and I felt that as it is a vocoder it is much better being fed by a clean vocal signal.

You will also hear some glitch stutter FX. These were improvised on each show so I haven't spent days making sure they sound super clean and interesting...I just improvised many of them as the band would have done so hopefully this again brings the live atmosphere back into this studio version.

Lastly, I must credit another YouTuber with the audio section I used. Dennis Brekke's video of this from the Xcel Energy Center on August 17 2025 is the best on YouTube and has been an amazing reference for this reconstruction. You can find his video at the link below.
