Can I keep these old teak decks or are they destined for the scrap heap?

Teak deck removal is a labor intensive job. I would love to be able to save them if possible. Learn one way how to remove a teak deck if yours is too far gone to salvage.

Every good sailboat refit project of a boat from the 80s, like our Liberty 458 sailboat is bound to include some work on teak decking. For some reason, in the 80s the builders of these fiberglass boats thought it would be good to screw the teak decks into the laminated fiberglass core. This usually results in water intrusion unless the decks are meticulously maintained.

In this video I take a look at if these old decks can be saved as part of this giant sailboat refit project.
