President Trump declared during the annual White House Easter Egg Roll that his administration is committed to “bringing religion back in America,” highlighting Jesus and traditional values in his remarks following the death of Pope Francis.

Speaking Monday from the White House South Portico alongside First Lady Melania Trump and the iconic costumed Easter bunny, Trump offered condolences for the Pope’s passing and praised his dedication to humanity and peace across America and beyond.

“He was a remarkable man, deeply spiritual, and loved by millions,” Trump said during the 147th annual White House Easter Egg Roll. He also ordered flags across America to be flown at half-staff to honor Pope Francis, who passed at age 88 earlier that day.

Continuing the presidential tradition that began in 1878, Trump welcomed thousands to the White House South Lawn on April 21, where children rolled over 30,000 colorful Easter eggs in a festive celebration. The president stated that more than 42,000 guests were expected to join throughout the day, emphasizing the holiday’s spiritual significance.

“Easter reminds us of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s a day of hope, faith, and the celebration of life,” Trump said. “We’re bringing prayer, faith, and tradition back to America, and that includes honoring Jesus as the foundation of this great nation.”

Earlier in the day, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis, after battling pneumonia and health complications, had passed just one day after celebrating Easter Mass in St. Peter’s Square and meeting U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

After his remarks, Trump officially opened the lawn festivities as the White House Marine Corps band performed patriotic tunes. Master Gunnery Sgt. Kevin Bennear led the national anthem from the Blue Room balcony near Trump, setting the tone for a day rooted in faith, family, and freedom.
