In this video we will cover 4 ways of SHARPENING (adding contrast) to an image in Capture One Pro 20. The 4 methods include: CONTRAST, CLARITY, STRUCTURE and SHARPENING.
CONTRAST can be added with Capture One tools such as: Contrast, Levels and Curves. CLARITY and STRUCTURE have their own dedicated tool. SHARPENING dedicated tool allows the highest level of control. CONTRAST operates on large areas in the image - Capture One searches for bright vs dark areas and enhances luminosity contrast between them. CLARITY looks for specific luminosity-based areas in the image and it has the biggest effect on MIDTONES. The tool adds pop to an image and we can say that by adding CLARITY we are adding MICRO-CONTRAST to the MIDTONES range. STRUCTURE further narrows the affected area and is great to emphasise textures in an image. The last method, with its dedicated tool SHARPENING allows adding contrast at the micro-level, with this tool we are operating at pixel level along the edges.
While adding contrast we can introduce artifacts such as halos or excessive image NOISE. This issues can be fixed with the NOISE REMOVAL tool, or alternative creative methods that we will discuss in this video as well.
