“In the 1960s, the fastest quarter mile time for a small car was recorded. This figure is very popular with maslcar enthusiasts and is a great way to gauge a car's speed. While high engine power is impressive, it is important that the car is well behaved on the track.

The 1960s is often referred to as the golden age of American automobile manufacturing, when legendary models such as the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger R/T were created.

When it comes to quarter-mile speed, cars with big-block engines are most often the focus. However, this begs the question: which small-block V8-powered car was the fastest at this distance in the '60s? Not surprisingly, the answer turned out to be Chevrolet-related.

I compiled data from various sources such as Zero To 60 Times and Fastest Laps, and was able to give you all the information on the fastest Small Block V8-powered maslcar of the '60s at the quarter-mile distance.

Chevrolet, commonly known as Chevrolet, is a major division of General Motors. Founded in 1911, the company has established itself as a manufacturer of affordable and reliable cars.

Founders:
Louis Chevrolet and William S. Durant.
Headquarters: Detroit, Michigan.
Current CEO: Mary Barra.

Now let's get to the heart of the matter. One of the fastest cars of the '60s to cover the quarter-mile in record time was the Plymouth Road Runner A12 with a 440 V8 Six-Pack engine, 4.10 rear suspension and LSD, which covered the distance in 13 seconds.

However, the fastest car of the '60s with a Small Block engine was the first-generation Camaro Z/28.

Chevrolet had already had success with their Corvette in the 1950s and early 1960s, and in 1966 they introduced a new model, the Camaro, which was ready for the 1967 model year. It was a stylish sports coupe with four engine options, including two six-cylinder engines and two V8s.

Super Sport (SS) models with big block engines were available for speed enthusiasts, but the Camaro Z/28 was built specifically for the SCCA Trans-Am racing series to beat the 302-powered Ford Mustang.

The first-generation Camaro Z/28 covered the quarter mile in 13.8 seconds. To meet racing regulations, the Z/28 was not equipped with a big-block engine, instead utilizing a 302 cubic-inch V8 with 290 horsepower. However, many believe that the actual output of this engine was closer to 350 horsepower, which allowed the Camaro to cover the quarter mile in 13.8 seconds, becoming the fastest small-block muscle car of the '60s.

Few cars of those years could match the Camaro Z/28 RS for performance. This package also offered a Muncie 4-speed transmission, front disc brakes, and visual enhancements such as a rear spoiler and decorative stripes. The RS version also included hidden headlights and a modified grill
