Gross national income (GNI), the sum of a country’s gross domestic product (GDP) plus net income (positive or negative) from abroad. It represents the value produced by a country’s economy in a given year, regardless of whether the source of the value created is domestic production or receipts from overseas.
Pakistan was on top of the list in 1970 & 1971, Pakistan was dethroned by Sri Lanka, and topped the list of GNI per capita in South Asia for consecutive seven years. Pakistan regained its top in 1979 & remained on top up to 1984, which was dethroned again by Sri Lanka.
In 1986 Bhutan emerged as a new rival & dethroned Sri Lanka from its top position.
In 1997 Maldives arrived to be the leader in terms of GNI per capita in South Asia & till now has retained its position, at the top.
Pakistan's GNI per capita is correlated to other South Asian countries through a time span of fifty years, which gives us a clear picture of ups and downs in our countries economic hierarchy compared to other South Asian nations.
List includes GNI of South Asian countries from 1970 to 2018.
