Brazing Steel to Brass with Propane Torch and SSF-6 56% Silver Soldering Alloy

Instructional video teaching how to braze brass tubing to a piece of steel. Mike uses a propane torch and Muggy Weld SSF-6 56% Silver Solder. We add more heat to the square steel as the mass of the part is thicker and more substantial. By the time the square steel arrives at the working temperature of 1150°F. The brass tubing will be ready to braze.

Always clean the metals to be silver soldered prior to attempting to braze the metals together. New steel usually comes coated with a rust inhibitor. You can use a wire brush, wire wheel, sandpaper, emery cloth, etc. The brass is a little easier to clean. Most propane torch tips will work with the SSF-6. The trigger start or push-button igniter tips work the best. You can purchase a replacement jar of SSF-6 flux at MuggyWeld.com if needed. The rod will not flow as well when heated to a bright red or cherry red.
