Tension gripped Bhuvan in Dhenkanal district after angry residents staged a protest outside the local Tata Power (TPCODL) office over penalties imposed following a recent electricity raid. The beneficiaries alleged that the raids were conducted in a high-handed manner, with staff breaking meters, issuing threats, and harassing consumers—especially women. Shocking allegations include power officials knocking on bathroom doors and entering prayer rooms wearing footwear.

The residents claimed the fines were forced and arbitrary, while Tata Power maintained the raids were carried out due to reported cases of electricity theft in villages like Kingol, Ashurbandh and Chandipal. Women protested in large numbers, blocking staff from leaving the office and warning of intensified agitation.

The issue has sparked serious debate over consumer rights, power utility conduct, and accountability.
