Shroud - An Animated Short by Naomi Edwards

Shroud is a 2D animated short film demonstrating the struggle of "private battles" that we all face in our own minds.

It's hard to see in the midst of a storm. The setting of a turbulent thundercloud will demonstrate the lack of clarity we face when trying to reach clearer skies, a reflection of the internal atmosphere we develop when we doubt ourselves or are overly critical about our self-worth.

The protagonist, a "surfer" of the air, will face an ethereal cloud-like doppelgänger that will be an obstacle to her goal - to find serenity past the storm.

The climax of the struggle will show that at some point, we must face ourselves (we can be our own worst enemy) and let go and strive to push past, even fight, the lies that we tell ourselves in order to attain a serene state of mind.

Naomi Edwards is a senior artist specializing in 2D digital animation at Mercury Filmworks.

"When the shorts program was announced this past summer at the studio, it became a great opportunity not only to apply personal skills inspired by fellow artists but a chance to create something with deep meaning that would leave a lasting impact on viewers.

The growth learned from producing Shroud gave me insight into working smart with my strengths and weakness and knowing when to take risks to learn something new. The knowledge gained has opened up new strategies on working smart for future projects."
