Who else remembers Disney Quest? Disney’s first indoor theme park that ultimately failed.

When it opened in 1998, DisneyQuest was a brand new vision of what a theme park could be. A 5 story interactive playground, with digital takes on classic Disney World and Disneyland rides.

There was CyberSpace Mountain, where you could design a roller coaster and then actually ride it in a simulator - complete with inversion. A Jungle Cruise river raft ride. A Pirates of the Caribbean ship battle. An Aladdin magic carpet VR ride.

DisneyQuest was way ahead of its time - which may be why it failed.

Disney didn’t update the attractions or debut new offerings that much. So the arcade of the future started feeling pretty old pretty quickly. Disney planned to open 30 DisneyQuest locations around the globe, but they only opened 2. The location in Chicago quickly closed, but DisneyQuest at Disney World lingered until 2017.

The building was shortly occupied by the NBA Experience, but that also failed. A new interactive concept called Level99 will be opening in the location later this year. But I personally wish Disney would reboot DisneyQuest with brand new technology.
